Our Ingredients
All of our products are made with the best possible ingredients available. We love to focus on using local Australian products wherever we can, and love meeting new suppliers if you have a local product you think we might like feel free to reach out. Chocolate is one of our favourite things and we are very picky about the quality we use in all our chocolate products, you won't find any compound chocolate here. We also use only 100% pure maple syrup and free range eggs in our products.
Everything is made from scratch including our dulce de leche and marshmallow fluff! We use all butter pie dough on all of our pies, made with 100% Australian butter. We don't use any artificial flavours or colours (the only exception being the red of the red velvet cake). Everything is always made to order in small batches so you know your dessert will be super fresh!
About Me
Hi I'm Cassie, owner and baker behind Rustic Sugar. I was born and raised in Arizona in the U.S. but have lived in Australia since 2017. I met my Australian husband while working and traveling in Australia and we decided to call Newcastle home in 2018. I am a qualified pastry chef having gained my degree from The Art Institute of Seattle in 2012 and since then have worked in bakeries and restaurants in Washington, Arizona, Martha's Vineyard, Queensland, Tasmania and New South Wales. I have loved to bake from an early age and was always in the kitchen with my mom and grandma. Pies are a family specialty and I've kept with their traditions and it hasn't failed me yet! I love baking things that remind me of home and being in the kitchen with my family, although I've worked in some places that focus more on "fancy" desserts my heart has always leaned more towards a homestyle dessert which is how Rustic Sugar was born. Since I've been in Australia I felt there was a gap in the dessert market for something a little different so that is what I am hoping to fill with some classic American desserts that are perfect for any occasion!
